Maria Poncel


As a Principal of Bay Development, Maria Poncel manages all matters related to land acquisition and project entitlements. She has 25 years of experience in real estate development and management, in both private industry and the public sector.

Prior to joining the Bay Development team, Maria served as Project Director at Lennar Urban in San Francisco, where she lead the acquisitions team and managed the master planning of mix-use developments. She also previously held the position of Development Manager at Thompson Development, where she led the development group and managed the entitlements and construction of a broad range of developments.

Her professional experience also includes serving as a Project Manager for the City of Emeryville Redevelopment Agency, and while there, Maria managed various redevelopment projects, and staffed the city’s Housing Committee and Public Art Committee. Later, Maria joined the City Manager’s Office at the City of Miami Beach, where she steered the city’s redevelopment efforts.

Maria has also always been drawn to entrepreneurial endeavors and served as Board Director and Vice President of Operations at—a self-funded internet start-up in Emeryville.

Maria is a Bay Area native and received her B.S. from UC Berkeley Haas School of Business.

Additional Career Highlights:

-While at Lennar Urban, directed the entitlement process and land planning for 750 acres at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard and Candlestick Point; a proposed mixed-use development property, valued at over $9 billion.

-During her time at the City Manager’s Office at the City of Miami Beach, managed the RFQ process for the $1 billion 52-acre mix-use redevelopment of the Miami Beach Convention Center District, in addition to overseeing the RFP process for the $250 million Lincoln Lane mix-use developments.
